🌱 While EnsoPet is specifically designed to compost pet poo 💩, it can also handle food waste effectively. Composting directly into the soil with EnsoPet offers several benefits, including direct nutrient delivery 🌿, pest and odour control, low maintenance, efficient decomposition, and space efficiency 🏡.
Of course, we love composting our food scraps with Bokashi One. Fermenting food waste in a Bokashi One Bucket and then adding the fermented waste to an EnsoPet is my favored "companion composting" method. However, it is certainly fine to add food waste directly to an EnsoPet as well. Just remember to add EnsoPet Starter or Bokashi One Mix 🌾.
I love the simplicity of EnsoPet. It’s easy for anyone to compost 🌼. While I always have a Bokashi One Bucket on the go for my food scraps, sometimes it’s very convenient to tip food waste straight into the EnsoPet, especially if the waste contains liquid. For instance, it's incredibly easy to dispose of leftover breakfast cereal with excess milk into the EnsoPet—so easy that even my teenager 👦 is happy to do it!
When using an EnsoPet, be sure to add waste gradually to avoid overfilling the composter too quickly. You might need more than one EnsoPet, especially if you're composting both pet waste 💩 and food scraps 🥬🍎🍌.
Aerating the waste will significantly speed up the composting process. Aeration involves mixing or turning the waste to introduce more oxygen 🌬️. Our EnsoRator is the perfect tool for this. Its spiral end easily screws down deep into the EnsoPet, making it simple to mix soil, waste, moisture, micro and macro-organisms 🐛 while increasing oxygen flow.
Happy Composting!
