How Long Should a Bokashi One Bucket Lid Last?

How Long Should a Bokashi One Bucket Lid Last?

The lid may be a relatively small part of your Bokashi One Bucket, but it has a very important job to do.

Food scraps inside a Bokashi One Bucket are fermented. This fermentation process works best in a low-oxygen environment, which is why it is important to replace the lid after adding your food scraps and ensure that it forms a good seal around the bucket.

At the same time, the lid needs to be practical and easy to use.

For many households, a Bokashi One Bucket may be opened and closed several times a day. That means the lid needs to provide a firm seal while still being easy enough to put on and remove regularly.

Getting the balance between a tight seal, ease of use and durability is therefore particularly important.

What if my Bokashi One lid develops a crack or split?

We have recently become aware that some Bokashi One lids have developed cracks or splits sooner than we would expect.

Once a lid has cracked or split, we recommend replacing it. Even if the bucket itself is still in excellent condition, a damaged lid may no longer provide the seal needed to maintain the best environment for the fermentation process.

Our Bokashi One Buckets and their parts are covered by a 2-year warranty.

If your lid is less than two years old and has cracked or split during normal use, please contact us by phone on 02 8580 3234 or email us at sales@bokashi.com.au. We are very happy to replace it free of charge.

How long can I expect my Bokashi One Bucket lid to last?

We would love every lid to last as long as the bucket itself, and many do last for years. However, the lid is also one of the hardest-working parts of a Bokashi One Bucket. It is repeatedly fitted, removed, flexed and handled throughout the life of the bucket.

For this reason, a lid may eventually need replacing even though the bucket itself still has many years of useful life remaining. Replacement lids are available separately from our website, so there is no need to replace the entire bucket simply because a lid has reached the end of its useful life.

Why not change to a completely different type of lid?

We care about the environmental impact of the products we sell, so when we saw an increase in issues with some lids, we took the opportunity to look at alternative designs as well as ways of improving our existing lid.

We explored a range of alternative lid designs, but each came with its own compromises. Some did not provide the seal we were looking for, while others required an additional rubber seal that would eventually need replacing. After considering the alternatives, we came back to the simplicity of our original Bokashi One lid design. It provides the tight seal needed for effective fermentation without requiring additional components.

Rather than changing the design, we have been working with our manufacturer on improving the quality and durability of the material used to make the lid, while retaining the simple design, ease of use and tight seal that are so important to the Bokashi fermentation process.

A small part with an important job

A Bokashi One Bucket is designed to be used again and again for many years. If one component eventually wears out, we believe it makes much more sense to replace that individual part rather than the whole bucket.

And if your Bokashi One lid is less than two years old and has cracked or split during normal use, please get in touch with us so we can organise a replacement.
