How Quickly Does Waste in an EnsoPet Compost? How Many Dogs Can One EnsoPet Handle? How Long Does It Take to Fill an EnsoPet?
These are common questions, and the answers all depend on the rate of composting. Composting can vary widely, even between gardens on the same street. Many factors influence how quickly waste breaks down, such as climate, moisture levels, soil condition, and what your dog is fed.
In warmer weather, composting tends to speed up. Moisture is crucial for the process, the slots on the sides of the EnsoPet will allow moisture in, it's important to ensure the contents don’t dry out—if your garden needs watering, so does your EnsoPet. Good drainage also helps with composting efficiency. While the condition of your soil may initially slow down the process, using the EnsoPet will improve soil quality, helping composting become faster over time.
Airflow is another significant factor, particularly with in-ground composters like EnsoPet. Oxygen is needed to break down waste efficiently, and regularly aerating the waste can make a big difference. Our EnsoRator is the perfect tool for this, its spiral end makes it easy to penetrate deep into the EnsoPet, creating air channels which allow oxygen to flow more freely. The more the waste is aerated the better it will compost
And don’t forget—EnsoPet Starter is the essence of your composter! Packed with beneficial microorganisms, it accelerates the breakdown of waste by at least 50%. Make sure to keep adding EnsoPet Starter each time you add waste or if the composting process has slowed down.
For the best results, add smaller amounts of waste and EnsoPet Starter frequently, rather than large amounts all at once. Do not completely fill the EnsoPet, as it may become airlocked. If it reaches 75% capacity, stop adding waste, continue to aerate the waste with EnsoPet Starter, only add more waste once you see the volume of waste reducing.
One EnsoPet may not be enough in certain conditions or if your household produces a large amount of pet waste. Installing multiple EnsoPets and alternating between them can enhance the composting process. Additionally, the EnsoPet can be relocated if needed—just dig around one side to detach one side, once one side is removed the rest will come apart easily.
